Long before Portobello West, customers could shop locally designed product at Dream in Gastown. Dream Apparel and Articles for People has been showcasing local designers since 1993. The shop, currently located at 45 Water Street inside Eyeland and in the Net Loft on Granville Island, is a treasure trove of everything you need to dress local from dresses to leather bags, bomber jackets to necklaces.
An additional treasure is proprietor Wendy de Kruff. An advocate for local fashion, she happily shares her knowledge with fashion students, her product with stylists, and her retail expertise with up and coming designers. It’s worth popping into shop of course but try to do it on a day when Wendy is in for the full Dream experience.
You won’t only find emerging designers like Portobello West vendor Subject II Change at Dream, veteran designers like Allison Wonderland and Portobello West alumni Daub + Design, Jessie Turner, and BuenoStyle sell there too. If you are fresh on the scene and are looking for a retail outlet, Dream sees designers from 1:00-4:30pm every Monday at the Gastown location. Just call to book an appointment first (604.683.7326).
