PORTOBELLO WEST

Vancouver Fashion and Art Market Society

The Vancouver Fashion and Art Market Society (VFAM) is the not-for-profit society that runs Portobello West.  What does it mean to have a market that is run as a not-for-profit? Well, we have a distinct mission that is government approved. VFAM’s mission is to provide a venue for artisans to show and sell their work; facilitate and assist artisans in developing a successful and sustainable business; provide educational tools to prepare artisans for the marketplace; and work with artisans and develop programs to assist with their businesses.

Being a not-for-profit also means that strategic decisions about Portobello West are made by a board of directors composed of five vendors and three community members. These volunteers are dedicated to ensuring that emerging and established brands have a venue to sell and promote their products. No one is trying to pay their rent by being on the board; they just want to a market that is great and profitable for the vendors. This unique perspective truly makes Portobello West the vendor’s market.

If you have ideas you want to share with the VFAM board, they are always willing to listen. Simply email board@portobellowest.com and your idea will be added to the next meeting’s agenda.
