It seems like every social media post Firefly Notes designer Sandy Bahrich writes is hashtagged Portobello West. She is on the board for the not-for-profit fashion and art market so that might explain it. But it’s more than that, “I do a lot of markets around Vancouver and really love the market scene and my “co-workers” there,” says Sandy.
Intrigued by old, odd and forgotten tales, Sandy trolls thrift stores and estate sales looking for unique imagery that can be used in her Firefly Notes collection of cufflinks, magnets, bags, matchboxes, and more. From historical images of Steveston (her hometown) to 1905 hairstyle illustrations, she creates quirky and fun gift items that are visually appealing and often paired with fun and funny text.
The collection of objects with history and a sense of humour are always popular at Portobello West. And now they will be a favourite at Nordstrom’s too. Firefly Notes’ greeting cards and tins will be featured with EtsyCA in the new Ottawa Nordstrom!
