You can forget hitting the skincare aisle at your local drugstore thanks to Vancouver local Patrice Mousseau, founder and creator of Satya Organic Skincare. Skincare products these days are often overpriced and ineffective, not to mention the unpronounceable ingredients that make conscious consumers question what they are putting on their skin. It can be difficult to find products that are affordable, natural, and most importantly, successful, but Satya will have all of these bases covered with the added benefit of proudly supporting a Vancouver vendor.
“My product is a calendula based skin balm called Satya Organic Skin Care,” Patrice explains. “Simple, effective and hard working, Satya provides relief from inflammations, itching and irritations. It also retains moisture, reduces flaking and restores suppleness to dry and damaged skin. This makes my product ideal for eczema, psoriasis, burns and rashes.” Initially, Patrice was making her product to treat her family, but when asked by friends and family for samples of her homemade skin balm she created her business Satya Organic Skincare.
“Satya is made using ingredients of the highest quality and effectiveness for healthy skin with no added fragrance. I am also USDA certified 100% organic.” By combining her background in research with a passion for reliable and natural products, Patrice was led to create her reputable product. Describing the meaning behind the name of her business, Patrice says, “Satya, a name derived from Sanskrit meaning “searching for truth”, comes from a place of integrity and commitment in providing the best possible product for you and your family.”
Any consumer hopes to be fully aware of what they are paying for. It is important for Patrice to ensure that her customers are fully satisfied with the products she is handcrafting for them. “My materials are sourced as directly as possible, to avoid extra costs and the environmental cost of additional shipping. Because Satya is hand made to exacting standards in my kitchen, I always know exactly what is in my product,” she explains when asked about what goes into making the calendula balm. It is also vital to Satya’s mandate to avoid chemicals and protect the environment. The product is 100% certified and packaging includes paper created using wind power off sets and glass jars as well as soy and veggie based ink in all printing.
Despite being in business for a short six months, Staya is already available in a dozen retailers and online. “I also get the chance to meet people and sell to them directly at farmers markets and craft or trade shows,” says Patrice. Plans of expanding her business include “reaching out to national distributors to allow easy access to Staya to anyone who needs it.”
Starting out a business can be difficult, but Patrice’s customer relations are have been constantly blooming from the get-go. “Customer relationships are the best part of my business. Those who try my product quickly become champions for it among their friends and even strangers because it works.” By providing reliability and honesty, Patrice offers her customers something that can’t be taken for granted; truth. “I love knowing that my efforts have made a difference to them,” she says about her valued customers. “I am constantly checking in with those individuals and retailers who have bought Satya.” And she continues to learn from her consumers, “very often they come up with new uses for the product that I had never thought of,” she explains. The uses for her magical balm are endless!
Patrice says that the best part about her background in journalism was meeting different people everyday, with Satya she still does exactly that “while directly helping them by providing some comfort and relief, and that’s an amazing feeling.”
